New academic laboratory nears completion, bringing multiple firsts to Vegas — KNPR

The Nevada Health and Bioscience Corporation will open its academic lab in the first quarter of 2027. That’s according to the company’s latest announcement.

The two-story building that will soon become the NHBC Academic Laboratory is currently just a shell.

But once completed, the $44 million facility will include a blood center, a drug toxicology facility, spaces for molecular and transplant testing, and academic training opportunities.

James Waddoups is NHBC’s president and CEO. He said the lab should improve Nevadans’ diagnostic wait times.

“The broader community will benefit from the quicker response times on testing, keeping that testing here in Nevada, not having to send it out of state, taking many days,” Waddoups says.

Plans for the biosafety lab include BSL-3-level safety precautions, the second-highest safety ranking, for the study of highly contagious pathogens like Tuberculosis.
