New Las Vegas medical lab expected to drive economic development and healthcare growth — Las Vegas Sun
Southern Nevada could establish itself as a healthcare testing hub with a new project that would expand University Medical Center’s testing capabilities and provide more training for students at UNLV’s Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine.
The Nevada Health and Bioscience Corp. Academic Laboratory is set to be completed later this year.
“This is going to bring a lot of new and much-needed testing and healthcare services to Southern Nevada, speeding up some of the waiting times and keeping some of the testing that’s currently being sent outside of the state here in Nevada, so we’re very excited about that,” said James Waddoups, president and CEO of the NHBC. “It’ll certainly help educating and training the students who are coming out of the medical school, but then the broader community will benefit from the quicker response times on testing.”
The NHBC was formed in May 2019 with the goal of developing healthcare research and education in Nevada, starting with the construction of the Medical Education Building at 625 Shadow Lane — now home to the UNLV medical school.
